boyfriend and i went to the zoo last weekend!

they had almost every animal and they were all so friendly. a bunch of them came up to the fence and let us scratch they're heads- so, so great!

sometimes i worry about animals kept in zoos but the layout was perfect: the animals were close enough together that walking wasn't a problem. It was a beautiful setting and habitat for these creatures.

i've been wearing this shirt from urban outfitters almost everyday since i bought it. i love the poofy sleeves and the sailor stripes! it matches nicely with my high-waisted shorts and pocket-watch necklace.

now i'm off to figure out how to shop for free, without stealing anything.

there must be a way?!?!

i'm so behind on outfit posts!

i bought this dress on a roadtrip to seattle because there was no way i was leaving it behind. i instantly fell in love with the open back, zipper at the waist, the antique floral print with it's bright colours, and how it's scandalously short-length shows off my grossly pale legs (maybe next summer i'll do something about that haha).

this lace dress has fantastic sheer cutouts on the sides with keeps it breezy and cool.

i've been buying wayyy too many clothes lately, but it's so hard not to with all of these end-of-summer sales! do you guys find you buy more at this time of year? Or are you smarter than me and save your money to buy new fall wardrobes??

i saw a post the other day on another fabulous blog that showed a cinderella-inspired outfit. i loved this idea and i love cinderella! i decided to copy the idea (hope thats okay!) and create another one of my favorite princesses outfit's.

the first is what i imagined her wearing in the forest. its breezy, cottony and silky, comfortable, and exactly what i would want to wear if i was living in a forest with seven awesomely-named dwarves.

went down to the beach the other night for a beautiful sunset. i wish i had the words to describe some of vancouver's beaches. this one in particular is called Spanish Banks, and at low tide, it stretches for ever across the ocean.

anyway, the weather was FINALLY short-appropriate! so i threw on my insight high-waisted glitter sparkle shorts, with this flowy white top from forever21, and my new fav flower headband :)

just uploaded this pics from my latest adventure to Granville Island in Vancouver. I hadn't been there before this weekend and it was super rad. I wore this floral dress from Forever21, which I later found out is quite see-through. oops.

just got home from a very fashionable interview for a very fashionable school, but i don't find out until friday or monday if i got in so please cross those manicures for me!

hello snowflakes!

so get this:

i go into my local consignment store with a good friend of mine. he was looking for an ugly sweater to wear to an ugly sweater christmas party. while in the changing room, i was half-heartedly perusing the tiny ladies section, when i feasted my eyes on this.

white. eyelet. stretchy. grandma. retro. PERFECT in all it's poofy-sleeved perfection.

so i take it up to the counter and the lovely old woman told me it was going to be $3.00. Now, i'm not an experienced consignment shopper so my jaw dropped at such a low price. The poor woman must have misunderstood by shock and awe and she was quick to say:

"i'll let you have it for $1.50"

a dollar. and fifty cents.

you can hardly get a decent cup of coffee for that price. needless to say, i've worn it almost everyday this week.

anyway, i took my fabulous new black cape that was a steal at $24 (off of $80), for a spin through the forest. it was a bit of a throw-back to little red riding hood, especially with the bright red hair i've been sporting these days.

hello darlings!

i'm so sorry i've left you for so long. it's been hard to keep up with blogging and find motivation to write. this is a frustrating business, and it's all about popularity. i just need to remember that i'm doing this for me.

anyway, me and my favorite boy spent the weekend in jasper, alberta where i went to some of the most beautiful places i've ever seen. i was finally able to use my new awesome boots that are cringe-worthy to look at but so, so practical.

FINALLY

after almost a year of non-stop searching, i found faux-leather fingerless driving gloves!!!

(that picture has nothing to do with anything, by the way)

actually, i found 2 pairs (ha!). one from claire's (a little pre-teen accessories store) and aldo accessories. i bought the ones from claire's but they didn't fit so i returned them and got the aldo ones (which were much more beautiful).

after i saw the beauties that louis vuitton put out for his spring2009 collection, i knew i needed them. I was almost ready to drop $400 on his creation. luckily, mine were under $20.

anyway, im currently trying to grow out my nails so i can wear them but i will debut them soon!!!

i found the most beautiful rose-covered gazebo downtown the other weekend while strolling with my boy. it's breathtaking and right out in the open but it's so well camouflaged by rosebuds that i've never seen it before.

whipped out the thigh-high boots for another stroll down the lake. i still get some looks when i wear them since this little town isn't very fashion forward haha. at least i tried to pair it with something lacy to tone down the stripper-quality of the boots.

i apologize in advance for the massive overload of photos your about to see and i hope nobody's internet slows down from trying to load them all.

this is a mix of an outfit post and a photography post, which is why there are so many photos. plus, when you sit in poison ivy while doing a photoshoot, i think one become entitled to post however many pictures one pleases, to distract them from the itching.

anyway, what a beautiful sunset we had tonight! unfortuntely, this lace blouse from f21 didn't catch the light as much as i had hoped, but it's beautiful in person. this is the skirt that my friends have seen me in 8 million times because it's the one i wear to work, to school, and to play. i love it!

i must have done this balloon photoshoot at least 3 different times, trying to get the right lighting, and each time with a slightly different outfit. below are the pictures that worked the best, but i couldn't leave out the feet one at the top, so excuse the non-matching-ness of the photo posts.

this is the debut of the faux-leather motorcycle vest from h&m. so fantastic. i paired it with a lace dress, a hair flower, and some d.i.y. studded ballet flats (which i saw on bona drag and p.s. is the easiest thing to d.i.y since learning how to butter toast), so it looked a little less edgy.

thanks so much to the lovely maria over at chicisimo for featuring me on her superb blog twice in the last week now. she is super rad and her site definately deserves a long look!

ohmigod.

i've gone off the deep end. with the help of my credit-card-savy bff, i've gone and spent enough on clothes and boots to last me about 6 months (or 2 weeks, because it is me, afterall).

i finally found a pair of thigh-high boots that were so cheap and trashy, they had to be mine. and a sweet/salty military jacket from f21 that should make everyone stand at attention. lastly, on my trip to toronto, i finally picked up a perfect faux leather motorcycle vest from h&m. it's a few sizes too big but that makes it seem all the more authentic, i guess.

i know this is all talk and no show, but i'll post pics once my life calms down.

anyway, i'm on my way to buyer's remorse hell but i'll look real fine on the way there.

inspired by lauren's post over at iliketoplaydress-up i was inspired to create this little bracelet monster. i love how easy it was to chain together with some careful measurements and a little labour. i'm really pleased with the result and needed to show it off a.s.a.p!

sorry i've been so lame about posting these days. i was super busy running to edmonton again to visit the boyfriend and attend a wedding (such a fun excuse to play dress-up!). as per usual, i did some shopping and found the PERFECT pair of fall boots/shoes and the PERFECT blazer that i've been trying to find for weeks (pictures of the to come soon).

here are the shoes:

look closely and you can see that they have a dark, wooden wedge heel, with cutouts on the top of the foot and peeptoes. what really got me was the different sized straps lacing them up to the ankle. brilliant!

silly boy had to jump in with me, literally.

p.p.s. just bought this dress (in black) to wear to a wedding next weekend. i'm really excited about it. usually i don't buy much from american eagle or other mall chain stores but i have no money and anything i already owned was either too fancy or too casual. i'm pairing it with some equally inexpensive and totally killer black ankle boots.

went down to the beach today. it's finally hit about 30degrees which is just cool enough here that you can go outside and not want to melt into the sidewalk. luckily, this jumper was perfect for the weather!

obviously i'm so flippin' rad that you all should want to know ten entirely useless facts about myself. the darling gracie over at squarectomy tagged me, so read on, friends.

one!- i love rapping. like, for serious. throw me eminem's most tongue-busting rhymes and i will spend however long it takes to master it...white gurrl, style.

two!- i hate tomatoes, but i'll put ketchup on anything. anything.

three!- one time last year, i fell in love with a really expensive coat, so i didn't buy groceries for two weeks so that i could buy it. i'm pretty sure that i spend so much money on clothes, i'm going to end up homeless, but at least i'll be livin' on the streets in killer shoes.

four!- i'm so accident-prone, it's almost a skill.

five!- old people holding hands actually is the cutest thing ever.

six!- roadtrips over the mountains on sunny days with good music and good friends is makes me feel so happy and alive.

seven!- i once said the word seven so many times that it lost all meaning and sounded really weird. now i don't really like it.

eight!- last week, i stepped on a spider by accident and apologized to it because i felt so horrible for it's untimely death.

nine!- i like music that most people think is depressing or sad. i just think it's mellow and comforting.

ten!- i'm so afraid of ladders. if i climb too high on one, i'll freeze up and i can't really move which is kind of tricky when trying to get back down.

i didn't realize until today how long it has been since my last post. sorry to being so lame.

i've been laying low these past couple of days.

multiple forest fires have sprung up around kelowna, where i live. they are huge and intense and many people have had to evacuate they're homes. so far, myself and almost everyone i know has been very lucky, so fingers crossed that things will be okay.

i was sitting downtown by the lake tonight, watching the smoke. the sun was orange from the thick, black smoke clouds and as ash was blowing over the water, i have never felt so small and so alone. it's a strange feeling.

i finally got a new digital camera! it's just a little point-and-shoot panasonic lumix but it takes lovely photo's and at least it didn't fall out of a tree like my last one (may it rest in peace).

i've been itching to get some outfit photos done, so here you go! this is what i wore today to run errands (well, minus the four-inch heels. those are simply for fashion photo's sake). unfortunately, i underestimated how flipping hot it was outside (35celcius!) so i just snapped a few quickies before i dehydrated from sweating (ew).

i was so excited about this that i had to come home and blog about it right away. you know when you go shopping, and somedays you find nothing, but other days you find everything?

well, i went to winners today and ended up becomming the proud owner of a beautiful cream faux leather jacket, with zippers every which way ($38/clearance), the perfect pair of sailor jeans with buttons on the front ($16/clearance), and a pair of jeans from victoria beckhams line, that usually retail for almost $200 (ha! i got them for $29.00!)

unfortunately, i'm not feeling overly photogenic today, but here's some pictures anyway.

these smiley-face pictures don't really fit with my mood. i've actually been feeling very uninspired these days. i guess i just have a lot on my mind. things get scary when you have to worry about real-life problems.

anyway, it is hard to be feeling burdened with life when you live where i do. i'm surrounded by huge, beautiful lakes and mountains and it makes it hard to feel like your problems actually matter, but everything will be okay. it has to be.

it goes without saying that everything- everything- comes back in style.

in the '50's, polka-dots were introduced and any housewife worth her cheesecake wore them religiously. eventually, these dotted garmets became passe, like any fashion crazy. the '60's, '70's, '80's, and '90's were a jumble of boho-chick, electric althetica, and, my personal favorite, grunge.

it wasn't until the early 21st century that polka-dots came back. in my opinion, they weren't treated with as much class and dignity as in previous eras and quickly became the epitome of tacky.

but, like everything else, polka-dots are back, ladies. i never thought i'd see the day, especially because i am completely anti-dot. however, excuse me while i eat my words, since i now own three things covered in these previously hideous round circles. in my defense, all of these pieces have a throwback-retro vibe, so i guess they're really not that bad, as long as they are done tastefully.

i went to go buy the new issue of Nylon yesterday. of course it wasn't out yet (so lame!) but i bought a different magazine instead. for those of you in the UK, you've probably heard of Acne Paper, a fashion magazine that mixes in a little bit of culture, film, history, and real-life, with beautiful photography.

what caught my eye about this magazine was it's size. its about 1.5x bigger than a regular magazine and is printed on heavy newsprint. so cool!

i think everybody goes through fashion phases. there was a time when i would only buy ruffly shirts, and then a time when i would buy crazy tights, and then a time when i only bought dresses. now i'm really into shorts. especially anything shredded or washed in acid. i think it's the '90's grunge phase kickin' it.

it's really hard to think of wearing anything that comes below my knees when it's been hitting almost 30 degrees everyday so far. my style's also been kickin' it super casual these days, which is also something new. not long ago, leaving the house in jean shorts and a tank would make me feel sloppy, but that's feeling's gone too. i guess the heat can make you do some pretty crazy things!

speaking of crazy, i hit up value village the other day (which is a huge thrift store, for those of you outside of canada). i don't mean to sound pretentious or snobby but i usually never buy anything from there. i don't have a problem with anyone who does, i just never thought it was for me. anyway, once i turned down the snooty attitude, i realized it was a pretty cool place to pick up one-of-a-kind items.

(how i ever got a boyfriend with this hot, hot face is beyond me. bow chicka wow.)

i bought this dress straight out of the '80's. it's about 5 sizes too big, has puffy princess sleeves, shoulder pads (yes. shoulder pads.), and hits at that awkward length just below the knee that is not flattering on anyone. i do love the pattern and colour in it though, and i think it'll be a real gem once i alter it. i picked up some other sweet things at VV but i'll save those for another day.

i realized today that i don't really smile in any of the pictures that i post on here. its too bad because i really am a pretty happy person. in fact, i have a hard time taking myself seriously. i love to play with fashion and these melancholy faces never show that. oh well, i'll try and be more chipper and sparkly in the next ones!!

hope you all had a lovely day. i spend mine boiling at the beach for the third day in a row (and have wicked sunburn lines to prove it. sexy). anyway, then i went shopping for work clothes for my new job which i start on monday, yea yea!
